Welcome to 2024! It’s hard to believe we are into February already. I hope you all had a chance to take a break over Christmas and feel ready to take on whatever this new year throws at us.

I heard an interesting word the other day – Superiofficey. Apparently this means a sense of superiority for those who choose to work in an office. A common belief is that being in the office may lead to better opportunities, and a sense of recognition and appreciation.

In contrast, a recent McCrindle survey of over 1000 Australians found that 14% want to work from home all the time, 62% want a hybrid version and 25% want to be in the office all of the time. Given these results, it seems likely that hybrid is the trend that we will continue to see across all sectors.

61% of hybrid model supporters felt it gave them better work life balance and 49% felt it gave them more deep reflecting time. On the flip side, being in the office does build strong relationships with colleagues, leaders and it encourages collaboration. Clearly giving people the choice of where they work, will be the greatest transformation in the way we work and present the greatest challenges for leaders.

An aging population presents both challenges and opportunities for industries, and strategies to engage young talent are crucial for sustainability.
