Between listings, settlements, inspections. managing properties and everything else that comes with working in real estate, it’s easy to put your own financial future on the back burner. Superannuation is one of those topics that often gets pushed aside until a major life event forces us to pay attention.
That’s why REIP has partnered with REI Super to launch Future-Proof, a three-part podcast series exploring the unique superannuation challenges facing women in real estate.
Hosted by REIP CEO Sadhana Smiles, the series features honest conversations with industry leaders and experts about career breaks, commission-based incomes, life events and the practical steps that can help build greater financial confidence.
Episode 1 is available now, with Episodes 2 and 3 rolling out over the coming weeks.
Whether you’re just starting your career or have decades of experience behind you, each episode is designed to help you better understand your options and make informed decisions for the future.
Future-Proof Podcast: Episode 1 – The conversations we should have started years ago
The first episode features Jackie Barnes, Head of People & Growth at Laing+Simmons, alongside Khyati Halani, Senior Business Development Manager at REI Super.
One of the strongest themes to emerge from the conversation is how rarely superannuation is discussed – whether at school, in the workplace or even among family and friends. For many women, it’s something that remains “out of sight, out of mind” until a major life event shines a spotlight on it.
Rather than focusing on financial jargon, the discussion explores the real-life moments that shape our financial future – career breaks, divorce, raising children, changing careers and the reality that many of us simply weren’t given the knowledge or confidence to engage with our super.
Jackie shares the surprising discovery she made years after her divorce, while Khyati explains why reviewing your super after any significant life event can make a meaningful difference over time.
It’s an honest, practical conversation that reminds us financial confidence isn’t about knowing everything. It’s about starting the conversation and taking the first step.
Thriving through Change: Have your say on wellbeing in real estate
REIP and MitchellPT have launched a national wellbeing survey to better understand the pressures affecting real estate professionals today, particularly for property managers navigating rising client expectations, changing legislation and increasing workloads.
This research project will explore issues including workload stress, financial stability, workplace support, leadership, team culture and the impact of ongoing change. All responses are completely confidential, and the findings will be shared with the industry to help guide meaningful solutions that support mental health and workplace wellbeing.
The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete. By sharing your experience, you can help build a clearer picture of what people across the industry are facing, and what needs to change to help them thrive.
